During the last years, there has been an increasing diffusion of wireless networks as a mean to overcome digital divide; in these scenerios, haver been used mainly 802.11h devices operating in the ISM 5GHz band(5,470GHz-5,725GHz); such devices are able to guarantee a nominal speed of 54Mb/s.
The project High Performance Wireless Network HPWNet - is born with a double objective: in first place, to create in the urban area in Turin a wireless backbone that can be used both for the rapid activation of wireless links in Turin and as the departure for extensions and ramifications toward the Communes around Turin.
The second objective is to make the net the most modular possible with the purpose to be able to extend it both in terms of geographical coverage and in terms of ability.
