Introduction
It’s a permanent lab that is active in “embedded systems”, micro systems and user equipment belonging to the “consumer electronics” family.
EmSys Lab is one of CSP’s independent initiatives operating on specific project demands and works in cooperation with university and private electronics labs.
What it does
The lab is involved in the following activities:
- Analysis and study of technological scenarios relating to embedded systems
- Industrial research projects on innovative hardware and software technologies
- Development of high technological content prototypes
- Dissemination of technologies.
Research Themes
The main research themes are:
- Media Systems/Domo Center
Design and development of the Omegabox system: an advanced media center, avant-garde for its integration of user-friendly multimedia facilities. - Embedded Systems
- Analysis of the main embedded processors and platforms
- Analysis of the main Digital Signal Processors
- Analysis of the main FPGAs – Field Programmable Gate Array – on the maket
- Study of embedded systems application environments with use of DSP and FPGA processors.
- PIC Systems
- Programmable Integrated Circuits for ad hoc applications
- Study of the Microchip family of PIC processors for ad hoc applications
- Realization of prototypes designed to develop limited functions, but with high technological content and small design.
- Embedded and Micro Electro Mechanical System (MEMS)
These are “intelligent” systems that combine electronic functions, management of fluids, optics, biological, chemical and mechanics in a very small space, integrating technology used for sensors and actuators and many other functions used in managing processes – from Wikipedia –: - Study and application of MEMS systems with the aim of improving product efficiency and making it more user-friendly.
- Digital Radio
- Coordination of initiatives and implementation of digital radio appliances
- Prototyping multi-standard Digital Radio based on embedded processors and Linux operating systems for reception of web streaming via LAN and Wi-Fi and FM reception.
- Domotica
Domotica has an important role in making equipment and household appliances intelligent. Use of embedded systems with simple user interfaces makes life less complicated: - Study of embedded applications at home and in multimedia
- Study of user interface 0characterised by increased user friendliness to include those with little computer skills.
