Introduction
W3Lab, established together with the IT Department of Università di Torino, focuses
on application architectures and user interface development.
What it does
The laboratory carries out the following activities:
- Analysis and study of technological scenarios
- Applied research projects regarding innovative technologies
- Development of technological demos
- Presentation of results nationally and internationally
- Technology transfer to the local area with particular reference to the business world.

The work of the laboratory focuses mainly on:
- Digital libraries. Study and experimentation of technologies and tools regarding the management and consultation of digital libraries, such as:
- Semantic annotation of digital content
- Multi-channel, multi-modal access systems
- Enterprise Content Management.
- HCI (Human Computer Interface). Technologies and tools for creating interactive interfaces such as:
- Multi-touch and surface computing systems
- Gesture recognition systems
- Design and assessment techniques for interactive interfaces.
- Parallel Computing. Study and experimentation of technologies and tools regarding the creation of parallel applications, in particular:
- Porting applications to GRID platforms
- Techniques for developing multi-core architectures
- Development on dedicated hardware: special purpose accelerators and DSP.
- Mobile applications. Study and experimentation of technologies and tools regarding the creation of applications for mobile devices, in particular:
- Mobile platforms: J2ME, MAEMO, iPhone, Symbian and Android
- Localization and identification techniques
